Virtus Launches MEMS Motion Sensing Devices
Micro Sensing Mote Kit & V Logger

Virtus Advanced Sensors, a developer of multi-axis inertial sensor technology recently has introduced its first sensor product, an analog 3-axis accelerometer for low-cost consumer electronics applications. Its affiliated company, Virtus Asia, Ltd., a leading applications developer, has developed two products utilizing this technology including a wireless motion sensing mote kit and multi-sensing data recorder. These three new products are the first to be introduced by Virtus Group companies.

Dr. Wen J. Li, an expert on MEMS motion sensing technology, Director of the Centre for Micro and Nano Systems at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and a Director of Virtus Asia, believes that “low cost wireless MEMS motion sensing systems would lead many developers to create new novel applications for a number of industries including industrial, manufacturing, logistics, and consumer electronics, among others.”

The application work being conducted at Virtus Asia will help stimulate demand for our sensors for practical use, large volume products. “Applications development is key for expansion of the broad adoption of motion sensing technology in the market place”, according to Louis Ross, CEO of Virtus Group.

Virtus Asia continues to develop key platform and novel applications technologies and know-how around Virtus proprietary sensor technology. These include human motion recognition algorithms, wireless communications and advanced inertial measurement technologies.

The Micro Sensing Mote Kit and V Logger are part of a new generation of motion sensing and data collection devices for industrial, consumer, medical and research applications.

Micro Sensing Mote Kit
The Micro Sensing Mote, containing battery, accelerometer and Bluetooth transceiver, is the smallest and lightest standalone acceleration data collection unit in the world. It embeds 3-axis accelerometer built with Virtus’ proprietary MEMS technology. The small size of Virtus MEMS accelerometer allows a high level of integration inside the compact Sensing Mote case

The Micro Sensing Mote Kit is the first of its kind to support multi-sensing with more than one wireless motion sensing units. Such unique feature will greatly expand the Kit’s ability to collect and analyze more data.

It can be used to develop a broad range of new applications in industries such as industrial, consumer electronics, medical and robotics sectors. Examples of applications include navigation devices, portable communication devices, remote controls and patient monitoring applications.

V Logger
V Logger stands out among its kind with its integrated functions to measure and record acceleration, humidity and temperature. Virtus MEMS accelerometer’s low power consumption enables Virtus Asia engineers to design the V Logger in a small package significantly lighter than alternative products on the market.

V Logger is fit for logistics, industrial, and environmental research purposes. It can measure vibration　and handling environment of distribution packages, as well as temperature and humidity during transportation, which is especially useful when the packages contain perishable goods or are costly. It can perform process monitoring for maintenance and troubleshooting applications in manufacturing plants. It can monitor changes in remote environment for research projects.

With logistics a key component of Hong Kong’s economy, it is expected to be well-received.
